The night has ended and no doubt I should be resting in bed. My sleep issues are not new ones- I’m sure if I dissected my life there might be legitimate causes and steps to take to alleviate the problem.

Where would the fun be in that though?

The question is in jest.

Lately I have been reading sermons online or listening to different audio clips from various Unitarian Universalists services. This past one I just listened was called “The Power of Now”- a Sermon by Rev. Chris Buice delivered of the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church. It really struck a chord with me. Perhaps my balancing act between meditation and action are out of sync. There is always to do lists, things that I want to get done, things that need to get done. During downtime it is typically surfing the Internet or watching some TV show. I have lost sight of personal quiet time where I need to look inside of myself rather than outside so that when the time comes to act – it will not be in the wrong direction.

"There are occasions when we need to say to ourselves, now is time to be still and quiet. Now is the time to seek peace in this present moment, to find solitude and serenity. Now is the time to pay attention to our breathing, open our eyes, and see the world that is right in front of us, to experience life in the only moment when we can truly be alive. Now is time for centering our life in that Larger Life that sustains all living things and us.

However, there are other times when we need to be together with other people, working together, struggling together and speaking out together. Sometimes the words we need to say together are those simple four words, so say them with me.

Now is the time."

I love watching the animals freak out with the laser pointer. Who needs to walk the dog when I can just have her run in circles until she collapses? The best part though is when I shine the light on Zap and watch the pup literally jump on him.

I would implore anyone who has not seen "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch to watch it below. I am normally not a fan of motivational lectures- they come across as cheesy and typically given by people who are just salesmen of a particular breed. Pausch didn't make a living out of it- he was a professor. Knowing that he was sure to die within months, this distinguished and beloved teacher gave a lecture to a packed auditorium as Carnegie Mellon a little less than a year ago. As of today, there have been over 4.8 millions of views.

Sadly Randy Pausch passed away last week.

4am

There are some positives to being awake at 4am.

It is generally quiet- no cars on the road, no noises in the house minus the cat padding around and the pup snoring.

I have the opportunity to verify that the sprinkler system is indeed functioning correctly. Though I have no plans to go running through them today.

There is a cool breeze that I can take advantage of and sneak a break in from the artificial cooling environment. Fresh clean Idaho air really does smell wonderful, and I’m sure there are fewer pollutants outside than inside.

I have thoroughly enjoyed being a bum today. Didn't get out of bed till 11 and then managed to sneak in two naps through out the day. It has been absolutely wonderful and dreadfully boring at the same time!

Most forwards I receive immediately get deleted. However, I thought some people might appreciate this image that was forward to me by my maternal parental unit. I laughed, and then cried when I realized that I'd have to drive to get beer.
